Montreal

As everyone knows I absolutely LOVE to travel. As my winter semester finished I got ready to pack for 2 vacations!! (I know, lucky me). If you read my last travel post you know that I had the most amazing time at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. I highly suggest visiting if you have the chance too especially if you are a Harry Potter fan but you can read all about that on my other blog post!

When I got home from Universal I had only about a day to clean all my clothes, unpack my suitcase and repack for Montreal! My 3 friends and I always wanted to do a girl trip getaway for a week. As we were deciding where to go we had to decide if we wanted the typical hot vacation that everyone plans to escape the winter here in New York or to challenge ourselves and go somewhere even colder. To our own surprise we decided to go on an adventure and step out of our comfort zones and go to Canada.

Before actually going to Montreal I had heard and seen nothing but spectacular things about Canada in general, however, Quebec City and Montreal are 2 of the best places to visit in the Winter because what they have to offer is unbelievable. It was super cold but as long as you are as prepared as were you will be fine!

First thing I would like to tell you guys about is the food. Seriously we did not stop eating. Everything we had and everywhere we went was truly amazing and sooooo pretty to be at. Of course I have tons of pictures to show!

One dish that is a staple in Canada is called Poutine. For those of you who don’t know what Poutine is, it is basically a glorified disco fries that you can get from any diner. The basic Poutine dish consists of french fries, cheese curds, and gravy. However, every single restaurant (even McDonald’s) has their own twist on Poutine. When I was there we tried 3 different types, classic poutine, Italian poutine, and breakfast poutine.  My favorite was the breakfast poutine.

Bottom left hand corner is the Classic Poutine.
Directly in the middle of the picture is Breakfast Poutine that consisted of potatoes, cheese curds, sausage, bacon, ham, gravy, and an over easy egg.
The dish in the middle right of the picture is the Italian Poutine which consisted of french fries, Italian Spicy sausage, sauce, and cheese curds.

Also while I was there I tried Lok’s with Cream Cheese on a plain bagel for the first time! I was very hesitant to try it but by the end of it I really liked it! Let me know if you like it too!

Besides the fact that were in Food-coma all week long we had such amazing experiences as well. While we were there we got to explore all of Montreal and we even took a trip to Quebec City for a day.

While in Montreal we discovered the most breath taking church called the Basilique Notre-Dame De Montreal, we got to visit a Barbie Expo in the underground tunnel which they created to stay warm during their harsh winter, and we got to roam the streets to see for ourselves why everyone says that Montreal is beautiful. Pictured below is the church and the Barbie Expo and the amazing scenery!

Finally, right before we left we took a 12 hour tour to Quebec City. Quebec City was about a 4 hour drive from our hotel there and back so we only got to see this amazing city for about 4 hours. Although our time was short there we all completely fell in love. Quebec City is truly magical in the Winter and there are no words to really describe it. The only word that really comes to my head is COLD. When we went the temperature was -21 but the feel temperature was -41. It was NUMBING, but, we had the time of our lives and used about 100 hand warmers! We got to visit Monmorency Falls which is like a smaller Niagara Falls and we got to roam around town after we had dinner. I can not wait to go back. Below are all pictures from Quebec City.

This is how they get up the mountain so you stay a little warm and you don’t have to hike all the way up!

Overall this was one of the best trips I have taken in my entire life and i truly can’t wait to visit again! If you or if you know of anyone who has ever been to Canada please let me know in the comments below! I would love to hear what you thought of it. Looking forward to traveling more around the world and letting you knows know how it is! Until next time..
